So glad I decided to dip my toe in the water!
I had never been a member of a business club until I came across Bowdon Business Club! With a background in nursing there was a very different structure to the working week! Having started my own business a couple of years earlier I was introduced to one of the founder members who suggested I visit the club. A completely new concept to me but I decided to dip my toe in the water!
I turned up at 6.30 am on a cold winters morning, I was immediately made to feel very welcome and as the weeks went by I found my feet and began to pick up tips about what these business clubs were all about!
I struggled for a while with delivering a good 60-second ‘elevator pitch’* tending to go off on a tangent, and becoming more like Ronnie Corbett telling a story in his comfy chair than a concise on point business woman!
My first 10 minute** slot arrived, I was a little apprehensive but the support and friendliness from the group made me feel as if I was purely explaining my business in a bit more detail to a captive audience.
The business club is a non for profit club run by its members for it members and I quickly became involved using my skills from my digital marketing experience to contribute to the group. With members taking it in turns to fulfil the different roles utilising their individual skills I have worn a few different hats over the years!
The club supports designated charities and it has been fabulous to not only get to know the charity representatives but to learn about each charity in more depth and be able to contribute to each fantastic cause.
I have learnt an awful lot about current business trends and have been able to help many friends and colleagues with sourcing services from members of the club and conversely have benefitted from business passed to me.
Each Friday morning is good fun, proactive and full of energy – I wouldn’t miss it for the world and having acted as a sub at another business club I can safely say there is no comparison!
