He feels it is a travesty to waste a newly plastered wall by applying the wrong products, here he explains his ‘10 step system’

Do your newly painted plaster surfaces look lifeless and drab? We have been researching over recent years to find the best way to achieve a rich, warm and truly 'decorated' finish to newly painted plaster. We call it 'The 10 Step System'.

Step 1. Mechanically sand with medium abrasives all newly plastered surfaces and damp wipe off all residue.

Step 2. Apply a high-quality mist coat to act as a sealant. Dulux SuperMatt is ideal.

Step 3. Examine all surfaces for minor imperfections. Fill and sand as necessary.

Step 4. Apply the first Primer coat, tinted to support the chosen finish colour.

Step 5. Re-examine all surfaces for minor imperfections. Again, fill and sand as necessary.

Step 6. Apply the second Primer coat.

Step 7. Apply the first top coat to the chosen finish colour.

Step 8. Mechanically sand with fine abrasives and damp wipe off all residue.

Step 9. Apply the final top coat to the chosen finish colour.

Step 10. Admire the finish.

Anyone can hold a paint brush and most painters can effectively use a professional roller. But to achieve quality, takes time, knowledge and patience.
