Joel Oxberry

Joel is Corporate Sponsorship & Development Manager at the military charity, Walking With The Wounded.

His main responsibility is to deliver the charity’s corporate strategy and income objectives, and actively promote its values and activities.

Making a real difference

Established in 2010, Walking With The Wounded supports a pathway for vulnerable veterans to re-integrate back into society and sustain their independence. At the heart of this journey is employment.

We recognise the inherent skills of our armed service personnel and want to complement these qualities, as well as provide support to transfer their skills into the civilian workplace. We offer assistance through our programmes to those vulnerable veterans who have been physically, mentally or socially disadvantaged by their service and assist them in sustaining their independence through new sustainable careers outside of the military. This includes providing support to homeless veterans and veterans in the Criminal Justice System, areas which are too often ignored.

The outcome? Sustainable employment, and independence for them and their families.

Creating partnerships

The day to day duties of Joel`s role include securing sponsorship for key events, generating new corporate partnerships and account management of key corporate partnerships. ‘We aim to support those who have served in the Armed Forces and their families, empowering them to regain their independence, thrive and contribute in our communities.’

Nationwide support through our programmes

Our programmes each address a barrier to veterans reintegrating back into society. Head Start supports those with mental health difficulties, Project Nova works with veterans in police custody and our employment programme works with homeless veterans, or those at risk of being homeless, to support them into sustainable careers. These programmes are complimented by sector specific projects like Step Into Health which provides a pathway for veterans into careers with the NHS.

Our programmes work in harmony to support vulnerable, wounded, injured and sick veterans in their pathway to sustainable employment and regaining their independence.
